Volunteers Make a Difference

Whether they are here on their own, as part of a corporation or even as a client, we appreciate the volunteers at Haven Toronto and recognize that they make a difference in the lives of those around them.
We want to thank everyone who supports Haven Toronto. In the process, we want to share some of their stories, like that of Elaine Muller, donor and volunteer in the Clothing Room.
Elaine writes...
A work colleague of mine was a friend of a member of the board at Haven Toronto. Together, we helped at the annual Christmas party. Through that experience, I learned about the important work of Haven Toronto and I started donating money.
Haven Toronto respects the homeless
and makes them feel that they belong.
Since retiring, I have volunteered with a variety of charities. When I realized that volunteer positions existed at Haven Toronto, I thought this might be my terrific match.
I like the people at Haven Toronto. By 'people' I mean everyone - the people who work at Haven Toronto, my colleague in the clothing room, and the guys who come for warmth and friendship.
The one on one relationship that you can build with the clients is very important. I have had terrific conversations with clients, especially about art therapy. I am very interested in art therapy and was surprised to learn of art programs for clients as part of the social inclusion at Haven Toronto.
It is reassuring to see how Haven Toronto provides clients with a welcoming, safe place to come and relax. Here they can make friends, get assistance, and receive meals and clothing.
And there are very friendly dogs at Haven Toronto. Who doesn't like dogs.
