73 Year Old Toronto Man Goes From Hospitalization To Homelessness

Sick in the hospital, still in need of medical care, a 73 year old Toronto man is discharged with nowhere to go. The hospital's position, you can either go to a shelter or to a group home.

Haven Toronto's Executive Director, Lauro Monteiro, says "It is unconscionable that hospitals drive people to Emergency Shelters. That should never, ever happen. Older adults being shoved into homelessness should actually be outlawed.

Cynthia Mulligan from City News looks into the complexities and concerns around discharging vulnerable patients who face a years-long wait list for long-term care. VIDEO

Mulligan says, "This is a serious issue that will only get worse as the population grows."
