Better Days Ahead
Actor and humanitarian Audrey Hepburn once said, “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” Spring is our planting season, and a time of new beginnings and renewed hope.
This Spring, we are pleased to introduce – or re-introduce – our new Executive Director, Dr. Antonio Bruno Scorsone, PhD, RSW Ret.
If the name sounds familiar, maybe it’s because Dr. Scorsone was Executive Director at Haven Toronto once before, first arriving 16 years ago. He is back to assist Haven Toronto at this present time of transition.
Supported by a Board of dedicated community leaders with a strong vision for the future, Dr. Scorsone helped shape Haven Toronto, the drop-in centre’s programs, and the quality of service and support provided to elder homeless men.
We celebrate 90 years of service this Spring due in part to Dr. Scorsone, our volunteer Board, and the purpose and passion they planted in the team at Haven Toronto.
Open in 1933, the drop-in centre provides healthy meals to some of the most vulnerable people in our community. Food is a gateway to other vital supports. Clients come for a hot meal and, while they are here, they can visit our nurses and counsellors, no appointment necessary.
There are ten thousand people who are homeless on any given night in Toronto. 75% are men. Many are clients of Haven Toronto.
