The Value of One, The Power of Many
The National Volunteer Week theme for 2021, The Value of One, The Power of Many, reflects on the awe-inspiring acts of kindness by millions of individuals and the magic that happens when we work together towards a common purpose.
Volunteers across Canada have stepped up now more than ever— supporting friends, family, neighbours, and strangers in their communities in the wake of a crisis. If this pandemic has taught us anything, it’s the value and the power that people, organizations and sectors have when they come together and work alongside one another to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those who are vulnerable. We recognize and applaud all volunteers who have selflessly reached out and taken care of others, during this challenging time.
As we celebrate all those who have stepped up to help others this year, we also recognize all those who have stepped back from volunteering to protect themselves and others. The value of one person staying home helps protect their network, the power of many people keeping their distance helps protect the community.
At Haven Toronto, while individual volunteer positions have been modified for safety and the corporate volunteer program postponed, it has not stopped our incredible group of volunteers from giving back. They have found new and unique ways to support our organization and continue to reach out and ask, “How can I help?”
Volunteers have taken on new roles in the most critical areas, while donating essential items for our clients, fundraising for our programming, and advocating for the homeless community at large.
To all of our volunteers, friends and community members: We recognize the important impact you have had on our organization in the last year and we are so deeply grateful for your kindness and generosity. It wouldn’t have been possible to overcome challenges and keep up with the demand, if it weren’t for your support.
