Lauro’s extensive leadership experience enables him to better position Haven Toronto to provide services to its clients and to chart a new course in increasing awareness of the issues facing marginalized elder men and their unique needs.


Lauro has decades of public service leadership experience within the justice and human services sectors and with the Ontario Secretary of the Cabinet.

Cary Goldman

Cary is a University of Toronto B.Sc. MSW graduate. He has over 25 years of experience in Psychiatric Social Work throughout Canada and the USA, specializing in Mental Health and Concurrent Disorders.

Cary has worked in both hospital-based Psychiatry and Community Clinics in Mental Health.

Wayne Bright
Wayne Bright

Wayne has worked in the social services sector for more than 20 years, including community outreach and frontline shelter support.


In his counselling role at Haven Toronto, Wayne utilizes his real-life experiences to connect with and advocate for clients.

Maureen McNeish

Maureen has worked as a registered nurse for more than 25 years, in Canada and the United Kingdom. Her experience includes home care, community nursing, faith community nursing, long term care, surgical and mental health nursing. She has obtained certification in psychiatric and mental health nursing from the Canadian Nurses’ Association, and is a graduate of Ryerson University’s Nursing program.  

David Wannan
Director of Development and Community Relations

With a background in media, sponsorship and publicity, Dave is responsible for marketing, community engagement and donor relations. His goal is to increase awareness of Haven Toronto and the issues surrounding poverty, homelessness and isolation while growing engagement and support of the centre and its clients. EMAIL

Kristine Walkden
Volunteer Development

A graduate of Carleton University, Kristine has a background in human resources and program coordination. She is working to increase community involvement and volunteerism at Haven Toronto, actively promoting the drop-in centre's services and engaging with groups looking to give back and make a difference. Rui Miguel Martins

Rui has a background in media, marketing and public relations. Prior to joining our team, he dedicated his time to volunteering at several non-profits in Toronto, promoting a wide range of causes including homelessness, disability issues and the environment. He is a graduate of Western University's journalism program.

Lab Assistant

Waska, who joined Haven Toronto in late 2018, has quickly become a favourite of clients. A Lab Assistant, she works part-time on Labour Relations or, more specifically, employee morale. Unlike anyone else at Haven Toronto, Waska literally works like a dog.

Edward Lezama
Support Care Worker

Edward has been a vital part of the organization since his arrival in 2011. As a Support Care Worker, he ensures that all clients are comfortable and taken care of on a continual basis.

Henri is the longest serving member of the team with over 12 years of front-line experience supporting our clients.

Ruth Stackhouse
Support Care Worker

Ruth is a dedicated member of the Haven Toronto team and serves as Support Care Worker on weekends. She maintains great relationships with clients and co-workers, alike.

Isiaka Akande
Support Care Worker

Isiaka is a Support Care Worker responsible for helping clients and ensuring that the operation runs smoothly on the weekends. He and his weekend partner Ruth work as a team to meet clients' needs.

Ali Yousaf
Manager of Finance
and Administration

From Canada's east coast, and having studied and worked in the States, Ali brings extensive experience to the role from both not for profit and business sectors.

Chris Benson

The former owner of The Cove restaurant in Newmarket, Chris brings years of experience behind the grill to his front line role preparing and serving thousands of healthy, nutritious meals weekly.

Tom Smith

A Red Seal Chef from Sault College, Tom has extensive experience as a chef in the convention and banquet industry including work at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and SkyDome.

Mona Aziz
Crisis Worker

As Crisis Worker, Mona Aziz has a tremendous range of front-line social services and crisis support experiences in Canada and in LA’s Compton neighbourhood, as well as internationally.
